Following on from Last Year's successful and well received .Lost in Music. project we have created .Our Generation' and we are delighted to announce we will be receiving funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to carry out this exciting project work. Our Generation will take The Who's song' My Generation' as a starting point to ask the young people what music reflects their generation and helps them define who they are and how they would like others to view them as a result. They will then begin to widen this enquiry through discussions with older siblings before moving back through the familial generations of parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents and family friends.
Similar to last year, there will be the opportunity for schools to take part in the massed choirs that will perform alongside the session orchestra. We will also be looking for a number of young people to be featured vocalists as well, both in vocal harmony groups and as soloists.
Between now and July, the project will provide an enjoyable mix of songs and harmony arrangements and workshop support to assist your schools’ vocal strategy. The concerts will feature a massed St Helens schools’ choir, a Pops Orchestra (formed from our Music Hub Award nominees including members from St Helens Youth Orchestra), St Helens Vocal Youth Choir, and selected soloists. We are pleased to be able to provide this activity free of charge thanks to St.Helens Music Education Hub funding and Heritage Lottery Funding. Our theme this year will support elements of the music curriculum and your schools’ vocal strategy, British Values and PSHE curriculum as well help support and reinforce greater aspiration and social mobility within your children. We are pleased to be able to provide these activities free of charge thanks to St.Helens Music Education Hub funding.
A key part of off the project are the workshops to be delivered at your school by one of our Vocal Leaders. Each school should book at least two workshops, one before half term and one after half term. The workshops are used to go through the songs with the participating children and staff. We ask for staff to participate fully at workshops and events to bring out the best in the children.
All choirs must be available to attend the stage rehearsal at the Town Hall on the day they will perform in the concert, therefore either 4th,5th,6th and 7th February at 1.00-2.30pm. This will ensure all children and staff are as well prepared to give their very best performance in the evening concert.
The concert is set to provide a highly engaging, memorable music performance and music history experience for every child, young person and staff member in attendance. Concerts are set to run on the dates listed below with school staff arriving earlier to register their children (arrival time to be confirmed). Children will remain the responsibility of your school staff at all times during the concert. It is a fantastic opportunity for school choirs to perform with a live orchestra and band.
There will be 4 performance of Lost In Music 2: Our Generation as follows from 6:30 - 8:00pm -
Tuesday 4th February Wednesday 5th February Thursday 6th February Friday 7th February
These will take place at St Helens Town Hall
We ask you only bring as many staff and chaperones as you need for your ratios as space in the hall is limited. Children remain the responsibility of your school staff at all times during the event. Parents/carers will be able to buy tickets for the performances. More details will be sent out closer to the time as to how they can buy tickets.
Please ensure you book at least two workshops for your school - one before half term and one after half term. FURTHER INFORMATION Many thanks for your engagement in our Vocal Programme.
